 Blue cross insurance

  • How do I fight against Blue Cross (medical insurance)?   My father is suffering from cellulitis that an infectious disease doctor has confirmed is bacterial in nature. He requires antibiotic pills that the insurance company (Blue Cross) refuses to pay for. They instead want to install a picc line to give him antibiotics (an IV that goes less than 2 cm from the heart) because its cheaper. The problem is my dad can't have a picc line since he has blood clot problems (and had them with a picc line in the past). He's paid near 00 a month to Blue Cross for our family for at least 17 years (since he had his first job that covered him under Blue Cross) and the pills retail to consumers at 00 a bottle which means non-OTC people get them cheaper. What can I tell him to do or say to Blue Cross when he calls tomorrow to get them to at least defray the cost of these pills?
    • I would start with having the Doctor write a letter stating the reasons he should not have a picc line. You may have to get a second doctor to verify that like maybe the infectious disease doctor. I have had to fight for a couple of things with the insurance companies and if you have the doctor to back you up it helps. They can still deny it but you should still try.
    • Sew them.. we had to when they refused to pay for my ivig.. and that was risking my life so we sewed and they backed down.
  • opinions on insurance plans please?   I would appreciate any opinions on health insurance. Blue Cross /Blue shield as compared to an HMO plan for example. The positive and negative of each. Thanks!!!
    • insurance company better
    • I've heard that BCBS is just about the best you can get for the money. An HMO plan is where you have to go to a specific doctor that has contracted with your carrier. The only time an HMO plan MIGHT cover you out of state is if you have a catastrophic loss. With PPO plans you can go in or out of network... of course out of network gives you less benefits. If you have any more q's please email me... also visit my companies website
  • How much does a typical maxifacial and sinus CAT scan cost?   I have Blue Cross insurance but have a large deductable...
    • quite alot
    • I had a CAT scan done just around my lower abdomen area, and it was more than 00.00. There was the scan, plus the other "hidden" costs, such as paying the doctor to read the scan. This was 3 months ago. Most hospitals will set up a payment plan for the part you have to pay.
