  • why do people like ANN COULTER?
    • Nobody in their right mind listens to her, don't worry.
    • Why did it take me 20 minutes to scroll down to answer this question???
  • Should Insurance Companies Be Outsourcing Your Health Care?   In the U.S., health care costs are getting so high that some businesses and insurance companies are starting to eye the potential savings of outsourcing health care. "It's just one of the many ways in which our world is flattening," said Arnold Milstein, chief physician at New York-based Mercer Health & Benefits who's researching the feasibility of outsourcing medical care for three Fortune 500 corporations. "Many companies see it as a natural extension of the competition they've faced in other aspects of their business." Blue Shield of California and Health Net of California is now offering lower-cost policies allowing members to seek medical care in Mexico. Florida-based United Group Programs, which sells self-insurance policies to small businesses, offers a plan that sends patients to Bumrungrad International hospital in Bangkok, Thailand. It says the plan will save employers more than 50 percent on major medical costs and slash employees' out-of-pocket expenses to zero. AP
    • Unless you work for a major hospital, all health care coverage is outsourced.
    • Americans have been told for the last 20 years not to worry about manufacturing jobs leaving the US, they were being replaced by high tech and service jobs. When customer service and tech support jobs were contracted to S Asia, we were told these weren't really the kind of white collar jobs Americans wanted anyway. Now we have to leave the country to get professional services? Come, on, this is globalization for the sake of globalization, MBA's justifying their salaries and their business trips.
  • Is the City of New York trying to violate my "right to privacy?"?   NYC is investigating banning high levels of trans-fats from NYC restaurants: I thought the Supreme Court said I had a "constitutional right to privacy!" Hey, sodomy carries health risks too, but it's been deemed unconstitutional to ban it. So why is this different? I'm being partly sarcastic - you'd be hard pressed to find a "privacy" right to start with. But is government going too far? heck, smoking bans at least have the arguable justification that you are hurting others. Seat belt laws may help you keep control of the car, so you don't hurt others, if you are hit. Drug laws may prevent you from hurting others when you are high. And yes, laws against harmful food may lower everyone's insurance costs. But when is enough enough? How do you feel about possible encroachment of "the nanny state?" I've mashed together a lot of thoughts here, but give it a go. thanks. Hey Stifle, I'll assume your answer is a joke. No one could have misread the question so completely for real.
    • Until people are willing to take responsibility for their own actions and sue for not being protected, the government is going to have to "nanny state" them. When a woman can win a lawsuit because she spilled coffee on herself, then you know the nanny state is in affect. When a guy can ignore the surgeon general's warning and still sue cigarette companies, you know the nanny state is in effect. If you want the government to stop being a nanny state, then stop trying to have them intercede when you do something stupid to yourself.
    • Buy a can of lard and go home and fry some chicken, cry baby! Have they violated your right to move out of that over crowded dumpster yet?Move down south, eat all the grease you want to.
