  • ... are allowed to be on the same health insurance plans as?   as the people who are low risk? People who smoke drive up the costs of everybody's health care expenses! Maybe smokers should be covered on separate policies or be covered at higher rates than the rest of us who do not smoke. And how about people who damage their livers from drinking too much? Why are they allowed to be covered on our insurance plans? Maybe we shouldn't require insurance companies or govt. to pay for "self-induced" conditions resulting from the voluntary abuse of the body such as drug use, smoking, drinking, etc. Do you want YOUR money used to pay for those sorts of expenses? Good point happygogilmore. It's just a fact that some risks can be controlled while others cannot. Where do we draw the line? First the pro-lifers refused to cover contraceptives & abortions because it clashed w/their beliefs. Why can't non-smokers take a stand on covering smokers? Everyone knows cigarettes are the number one killer. note for diegobass: abortions are 9 times safer than giving birth to a term baby so that's obviously a moral issue and not a safety issue. All I'm saying about health insurance plans is that the high-risk people should be covered on separate plans than the lower risk people.
    • Believe it or not, there is at least one group that has pooled it's resources to do this. They aren't a genuine insurance company, but members do send in monthly amounts to help with keeping it going as well as contributions to help some who are going through Cancer, surgeries, etc. It is a more personal service, and I've read testimonials of people who were supported both in finances and compassion. Sounded interesting, I just never had the money for that or for insurance. And for what it's worth, I strongly disagree that we each have some inherent "right" to being insured, and yes, I suffer severe medical problems. I don't expect my Government to automatically insure all of us who can't afford it. The entire medical care industry in this nation is going to self-destruct because of how it's set up-it's just a matter of time. I have learned to be pro-active with my own health care, done the research, and treated some severe "untreatable" (with mainstream medicine) conditions with fabulous results. When you are motivated, it is amazing to discover the research done in Europe and other countries on plant and other matter in it's whole form. You get the science with no side-effects and no AMA or drug companies to patent/regulate/price it out of reach.
    • I BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE PAYING A HIGHER PREMIUM FOR THEIR HIGH RISK FACTOR OR THAT THEY ARE NOT COVERED FOR THAT RISK FACTOR, OR THEY HAVE A 1 OR 2 YEAR WAITING PERIOD BEFORE THEY ARE COVERED BY THEIR INSURANCE CARRIER. PLUS ! EVERYONE HAS A RIGHT TO BE COVERED BY AN MEDICAL INSURANCE PLAN. IT IS THE LAW.
  • Massachusetts - every citizen is being required to be covered by health insurance...?   or face fines. Low-income residents would be able to buy policies that are heavily subsidized by the State. Uninsured residents will face tax penalties if they don't choose a plan by 2007. State health officials say the 500,000 uninsured currently get their medical care through extremely expensive emergency room visits, driving up health care costs for everyon. Any health care officials or health care workers have any input on this? By Massachusetts heavily or totally covering these people - would this not cause a larger state deficit? Isn't this something that would be covered by their Public Aid?
    • Hi, The death knell is coming The powers that be, will be the death of me... Cheers!!
    • I don't know exactly how it works (I'm on the other coast), but I imaging that if a Democratic Legislature & a Republican Governor agreed on it, it MUST be good. Actually, I imagine that any fines would cover rising costs, until everyone has health insurance, in which case no money will be needed to uphold that law. In theory, of course...
  • Health Insurance?   I live in Georgia, I have PCOS and have no health insurance. Does anyone know of any low cost health insurance companies or plans. This medical condition really affects my life.
    • Here are a few ideas: The first link I?ve included in the Sources section is to Polycistic Ovarian Syndrome Association discussion boards. Chances are, there are women in your situation who can I?ve included links below to a national free clinic directory and to Georgia county health departments so you can get free or discounted health care immediately. You might also want to check out the link below to Georgia?s Medicaid eligibility requirements. If you don?t qualify for state aid, you might still be able to get assistance for medications you might need to manage PCOS. I?ve included links below to Needy Meds and Partnership for Prescription Assistance, both of which contain information about how to get financial help for your meds. The above answerer is right about health plans, in terms of their features being dependant on what you can afford. Since PCOS can in many cases be treated without invasive procedures, you might be able to get prescriptions from the clinic or health department. You might also be able to go with a health insurance plan that provides coverage for prescription medications. If you want to compare Georgia health plan prices, features, and availability, check out MostChoice.com. It?s a fast, free way to find out what plans are offered where you live and to ask specific questions of local area insurance specialists. You can find MostChoice here: Good luck. • I live in GA and am a licensed insurance agent with United American Insurance company. I would suggest applying for Medicaid if you are eligible - you can go to to apply for medicaid or call your local DFCS. If you aren't eligible I would suggest calling a few different insurance companies and getting a quote. Some ? to ask when comparing: What are the companies ratings? Are their policies guaranteed renewable? Issue age or attained age pricing.. Will my premiums go up every year because I get older? Can I go to any DR, any hospital, anywhere in the US? Are there deductibles? Does the company provide 1 on 1 agent/customer support? Are the premiums reasonable? If you'd like more info email me - agliddenua@comcast.net. I believe I may be able to help you.
