Affordable Health Insurance, an overview Affordable Health Insurance offers you a wide variety of medical insurance policies to protect you and your family against the high costs of health care. Affordable individual health insurance is likely for all of us who are in need of it. We just have to do a little homework to understand what is available, and ask ourselves what we need and what we can afford. Affordable health insurance can be of different types.

Now why on earth are Americans going to a Canadian pharmacy? With the rising prescription drug costs and the lack of good affordable health insurance many can't afford to buy it in America. Canadian pharmacies often save people as much as 40%, if not more. For some people, a Canadian pharmacy is the only way they can afford to get their much needed medication to survive. Just recently, you can now order from a Canadian pharmacy online and have it mailed directly to your home.

In most cases, private health insurance comes through a person's employer, who picks up the majority of the cost of premiums. However, today many people, who are either self-employed or who work for a company that doesn't offer health insurance, find it necessary to obtain quality affordable health insurance for children.

  • Why is it that a person without health insurance has to pay full price for a doctor's visit...?   ... but when someone with heath insurance visits the doctor, there is a discount on the cost when it is covered by the insurance? I had gone for a year without health insurance, and I had to make a few different trips to the doctor. Every time I received the bill, it was for the full amount of the visit. Now that I have health insurance, I went to my insurance website to see if my doctor's visit had been covered, and it said that the cost had been reduced (i.e. instead of the insurance company having to pay the 0, they only paid ). Why is that? Shouldn't it be the other way around? People with no health insurance should be paying the lower price out of pocket. I didn't mean that *I* got the discount. The insurance company got the discount. I'm not an idiot.
    • Part of the contract the doctor has with the insurance company is that the doctor agrees to take on a predetermined number of patients with this insurance. The other part is - yeah, the insurance company only paid of a 0 charge - but what is your copay? Because of the higher rate of reimbursement, I'm assuming your copay is on the lower side. So, if you think about it, the insurace is paying roughly less than fifty cents on the dollar for the visit. How fair do you think it is if YOU got paid fifty cents on the dollar of your salary?
    • Some doctors do give some type of discount to cash payers. With the average price for health insurance for a family in the USA approaching ,000 a month, you wonder where it will stop. Consumer Driven Health Care is where many will spend their health care dollar in the future. Instead of paying high costs of health insurance. Stuff like health savings accounts along with a high deductable health insurance plan can save hundreds. Discount Health and Dental Benefits also add value for those paying out of pocket. Some companies like Ameriplan USA of Dallas TX offer a full package of benefits for less than per month for the entire household.
  • I have a friend who suddenly dosn't have any health insurance and her meds for psych and other stuff is over   0. She just got back on disability so she's ok now. BUT this idiot of a therapist told her that if she can't afford them that she should go to eastern meds.....ya know, herbs, blah, blah, blah........and now she says she doesn't feel well.......Well DUH! They aren't regulated by the FDA....that's why they aren't OTC. But she just doesn't *GET It." Her hubby made too much money (self employed and makes the buchs ya know?) than to be approved for free or low cost meds. It's bitch bitch bitch with her......she's never happy about anything and she is a full blown hyophondriac. No lie..............It's really sickening.Any words of advice would be of big help........I've known her for around 14 years and she is not about to change now but how about something for ME to cope with HER? That would be a big help. I'd appreciate any help. No sarcasm please!!!! Thanks much. Her husband is self employed and doesn't have insurance. Also, SHE can't have medicare (which doesn't cover meds unless she's on SSI to for 2 yrs. That will get her MEDICAL paid for but no rx's thanks to George Bush and the National Health Plan.....the basta*d! I am on disability myself so I know a LITTLE about what is going on....but it's so complicated, I just sit and wait for my reviews........of which I'm up for right now as well.

  • help find low cost health insurance after breast cancer?   I had breast cancer over a year ago. they removed it and I had radiation. I am taking a pill that blocks estrogen for 5 years. No tissue or lympth nodes were involved. I am quiting a high stress job and will need health insurance. I am 57 years old and I am fit and in good shape other wise. Please help !
    • Forget discount cards...they are nearly worthless. You would qualify for Humana insurance here in Florida after 2 years. They would probably mark you up 25% and put a "rider" on the breast cancer. You can adjust the deductible to get a rate you can afford. Is this OK with you? If the "rider" is not OK you would need a "group plan" provided by a business because these plans are not medically underwritten and there would be no riders. But the group plan might be twice as expensive.
    • If you work for a company with more than 20 employees you're eligible for COBRA; AND if you like the company you're using, ask their enrollment. Also if you're medical needs are mostly for follow up, check with the American Cancer Society for companies willing to provide you care for low or no cost. I have epilespy and when I was laid off, I contacted my drug company and they give me the meds for free, which required my doctor to give me care at a very reduced rate.
