No matter what your age is or how long you expect to be in good health or to be alive planning for your health care in the event of a medical health crisis is a priority.  Give yourself a voice.  For many of us it is very difficult to talk to the ones we love about events that we do not want to see as possible or inevitable.    Talking to those you love about what to do in the event of a medical health crisis is important even though it is impossible to foresee every event or circumstance.

  • My daughter is looking for a company for Medical Health Insurance. Her company will pay 60%.?   She is looking for a company that will provide for Doctors visits and Hospital visits. One that is not to expensive because she is on a very strict budget. Any suggestions will be helpful. ..Thanks.
    • I wouldnt get an internet quote, call these guys: AETNA, BLUE CROSS (DEPENDS WHERE U LIVE) CIGNA, GUARDIAN
    • A lesson in health insurance might help, health insurance in the united states started in the 1800's it was used as a pooling of risk. Today, it works much the same millions of people pay into a plan- and a small percentage of these folks actually make claims. The insurance companies have brain washed american society into pusing plans that have small copays and little or no deductibles along with limited benefits, ie. no maternity coverage, or brand name coverage. Back in the day, healthcare was for major catastrophies not the small stuff. Adding all these benefits have made policies un-affordable for 43milliion americans. An easy solution would be educating or peeling away the fraud that anyone needs to pre-pay for medical care. You see when someone buys a traditional plan ie. HMO plan, payment is pre-paid to the insurance co. a percentage goes directly to the primary care physician you pick, so regardless if you go into the doctor for services the doctor and insurance co. make money the first day you sign up. The real way to take control of medical costs and premiums is to look into a Health Savings Account, these are very exciting for anyone who earns an income. So many tax advantages and significally lowers your overall costs, this type of plan works on pure mathematics, without preying on your fear. You will not see these types of plans being advertised on TV or newspaper, the only ones talking about them is the money advisors. So your asking if they are so great, why have I not heard so much about them, well first off health companies are not promoting them, they cut into profits when sold. Second because they cannot be sold by novice salespeople, the big brokerage houses like ehealth insurance and other large brokerage houses are not explaning them, you see selling this type of plan takes an experienced person, you can learn more at
  • Can the health visitor of a child in care disclose medical info on the mum to a 3rd person without authority?   My daughters son had an accident and everyone has jumped on the abuse band wagon blaming the dad. The children's health visitor has written a report on my daughter and disclosed medication she has taken and details of medical conditions to social services. Can she disclose an adults info to a 3rd party without authority without the order of the court?
    • If she is there for the welfare of the child and isn't your daughters Dr and has this info then yes she can report it.
    • If the Health provided was working, visiting on a formal basis, she would have already gotten a release of information when she first began her visits. From then on, all can be released. If your daughter in receiving assistance of any kind, from the government, her life is NOT her own. Be careful how you handle this, you could stop further assistance to your daughter, she could end up in a worse situation then she is in. Keep a Quiet Lid on these Events, handle them internally and don't get involved. If social services contacts you, that is different. But until that, take everything you hear with a grain of salt, unless you are Present for the Initial conversation(s). The rest is nothing but hearsay! Good Luck through your difficulties. I hope your grandson is safe, healthy and happy now.
  • Are there any low income health/medical insurance plans out there - state subsidized or elsewise?   I am 58 yrs old - and make under 00 a yr- I have no insurance for health check ups or prescription drugs... Are there any govt program to assist me in affordable healthcare? Medicare /Medicaid both claim that I am not eligible. Thanks
    • Unfortunately, I think the federal poverty guideline for Medicaid eligibility is ,800 (link below), unless you live in Hawaii or Alaska, where it is higher. You?re still too young to qualify for Medicare. I?ve collected a few Web site links that might be of use to you. One is called Benefits Check-Up (link below), a Web site from the National Council on Aging that helps people 55 and over find out what government programs they are eligible for. You simply answer a few questions online and you should have a good idea of what?s out there. You might also try contacting your state insurance office or health and human services office to find out if there are any other programs you might qualify for, apart from Medicaid (link below). While you?re waiting to get assistance, you might want to visit free clinics or county health departments (links below) for help. Also, Needy Meds is a great site that has information about disease-specific programs, discount drug programs, and government programs (link below). If you still can?t find help paying for medical costs, try MostChoice.com. It?s a Web site that has information about private insurance plans and is an easy and quick way to get in touch with locally licensed health insurance agents at no cost or obligation to you. You can find MostChoice here: Hope this helps, Barnes@MostChoice
